Hardin Optical Capabilities Detailed

Diamond Turning Capabilities

Prototype and high-volume products in Ge, Si, ZnS, ZnSe, CaF₂, Aluminum, Electroless nickel, Copper, and other metals.

Geometries include Spherical lenses and mirrors, Aspheric lenses and mirrors including on or off-axis conics, toroids, cylinders and other free-form configurations, lens arrays, and micro-lens arrays

  • 5mm - 450mm Diameter
  • Wedge <.005mm
  • ≤λ/8 P-V Surface accuracies
  • ≤ 5nm RMS Surface roughness

Grinding and Polishing Capabilities

Prototype and high-volume spherical and plano (flat) elements including Lenses, Prisms, Windows, and Mirrors in most optical glass types and IR crystals.

  • 5mm-500mm Diameter
  • Wedge (Lens) <.010mm
  • Wedge (Prism) <1 arc min.
  • ≤ λ/20 P-V Surface accuracies
  • ≤ .5nm RMS Surface roughness

DarkCoat Capability

Hardin’s unique DarkCoat scatter/veiling glare reduction capability has been developed for edge or surface darkening of glass. It is rugged, durable, and permanent since it actually transforms the glass material at/near the surface.

  • Tailorable over a wide range of optical requirements.
  • Almost any geometrical and irregular shape can be processed.
  • Darkened optics can be further processed, such as AR coated.
  • Darkened surfaces will not outgas or peel even in high vacuum.

Potential applications include all types of dark surface and dark edge applications, including lenses, prisms, beam splitters and beam dumps. It can be used in conjunction with other coatings for complex, tailored performance requirements.
